Evolution in identity verification - moving from physical to online and mobile

The main goal of an ID document is to prove the identity of the holder. Most of today’s security features to support the front-line authentication process are designed for manual inspection. They rely on high-resolution printing of special colours, tactile features and optical variable features (look, feel, tilt).
New ways of inspection ask for new security features that enable the authentication of an ID document from a simple picture of the physical document, or a mobile ID. This presentation considers the different solutions for on-line or off-line verification, using specific devices or ‘Bring Your Own Devices’.

•    ID checking is evolving from secure documents to mobile ID and remote ID proofing.
•    Today’s security features developed for secure document are not fit for this.
•    How can we keep the same security level under new circumstances?

Erik van Dijk has been working for Morpho since 2005. First as a Project Leader in document personalization projects, and today as a Product Manager for card body material and security features. He has been working as a Six Sigma Black Belt with different suppliers of personalization systems and techniques to optimize the quality of the personalization solution. Image processing has been a key component in this optimization process.
Erik is also the Chairman of the eDocuments workgroup of the Secure Identity Alliance, aimed at helping governments with the development of secure and durable documents.
