Bejtush Gashi

Minister of Internal Affairs, Republic of Kosovo

Mr. Gashi completed Bachelor studies at the University of Belgrade (1983), Masters Studies at the Zagreb University Faculty of Political Sciences (1989) and completed his PhD studies at the Defence Academy ‘Spiro Moisiu’, Tirana (2005). Dr. Gashi also holds the title of Assistant Professor of Security and Defence Studies.

He was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs in 2018. Prior to this he has held posts as Dean of the Faculty of Public Safety, Kosovo Academy for Public Safety (2014-2018); Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Kosovo Security Force (2011-2014); Director of the Institute for Security and Integration Studies ‘Katana’, Obiliq (2007-2011); Department of Internal Security Policy Director, Ministry of Internal Affairs (2006-2007); and Senior Emergency Planning Officer, Department of Civil Security & Emergency Preparedness (2001-2006).

Dr. Gashi’s Security Sector strategic documents drafting contributions include:

2011-2013 – ‘Strategic Security Sector Review of Kosovo’ Working Group member;
2009-2010 – Kosovo National Security System Strategy draft Working Group member;
2006 – Developing Kosovo Security Force Working Group member;
2005-2006 – Crisis Management System Strategy Chair of the Working Group Chairman.

Dr Gashi has published a number of academic works in the field of security, defence, terrorism, and civil emergency, including four University Level text books.

He is one of the co-founders and Directors of the ‘Kosovo Euro-Atlantic Association’ Non-Governmental Organization on the affairs of NATO established in 2003.

Dr Gashi is married and has four children.
